Dr. Muraviev is an award-winning strategic affairs analyst and Lecturer in International Relations and National Security at Curtin University of Technology.

He is a Coordinator of the International Relations program (undergraduate and postgraduate) at Curtin University. 

Dr. Muraviev undertook his undergraduate studies in Politics and History at Moscow State University (Russian Federation) and Curtin University of Technology. He holds a Bachelor degree with First Class Honours in Politics and International Relations, and a Doctorate in Political Science, both from Curtin University.

Alexey has commenced his professional career as a researcher in Strategic and Defence Studies and a lecturer in Politics and International Relations in 1998. 

Since 1999, Alexey was instrumental in developing and teaching modules and professional programs in international relations (Master of Future Studies, Master of International Studies, Graduate Studies in International Relations) and strategic and defence studies. In 2001-02 he took a leading role in the development, management and teaching of Graduate Studies in Strategy and Defence (GSSD) program in Western Australia (in partnership with the Australian National University), and he was the Program Director until 2004.

Alexey took a leading role in the establishment of the International Relations & Global Security Research Unit at then the Division of Humanities, Curtin.

Alexey has over 40 publications on national and international strategic and defence affairs, including two books and one research monograph.

He is the reviewer of the Military Balance annual defence almanach published by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (United Kingdom).

Alexey is a regular contributor to the Weekly Global Report, a weekly publication of worldwide strategic intelligence and analysis from Future Directions International: Australia's Centre for Strategic Analysis.

Between 2000 and 2010 he presented papers at 23 national and international academic and professional conferences.

Alexey offers his expertise and professional advise to state and federal governments and agencies, and to the private sector.

Alexey is frequently interviewed by local and international media on national security problems, international and strategic affairs. He is a regular foreign affairs commentator on Curtin Radio 101FM.

Research Interests

Alexey research's interests focus on problems of maritime security (modern naval power, maritime terrorism), Russia’s strategic and defence policy and military modernisation, Russia as a Pacific power, alliances in the Asia-Pacific, regional balance of power, Australian national security and defence, contemporary terrorism, future wars, and other.
