Caroline Fleay has been with the Centre for Human Rights Education since February 2007. She received her doctorate from Curtin University in 2005 and for her final two years of study she was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Kent in Canterbury. Caroline has since been a lecturer in the ethics and human rights program at the University of Kent and a visiting lecturer of human rights at the Institut d'Etudes de Politique in Lille, France.

Caroline has been involved with a range of community groups providing support and advocacy for various human rights issues. She is currently a member of the WA Amnesty International Branch Committee.

Research Interests

Caroline's main research areas of interest include human rights practices in Australia, human rights foreign policy, human rights in Australia-China relations, and refugee rights.

Research Projects

Current research projects include human rights in Australian foreign policy and in relation to refugees during the Howard government.

Teaching - Postgraduate

Caroline currently teaches in the following units:

  • Human Rights Theory and Philosophy;
  • Human Rights and Development;
  • Human Rights Advocacy, Activism and Change;
  • Human Rights Issues: The Politics of Refugee Rights.

Awards

Caroline was awarded one of the 2009 Curtin University Professional Development Scholarships.
