Born in North Wales Derek came to Australia in 1973 and after spending a couple of years working and travelling around Australia began a long (if interrupted) association with mining companies in the North West of WA. An interest in libraries and information organisation led to a resumption of teriary education in 1989 and then employment at Edith Cowan University and Curtin University.

My association with Curtin began in 1991 when I was employed as a Library Technician in the School of Information and Library Studies. The rise and rise of computers in the 90’s ensured my duties were increasingly focused on IT and in 2000 I became a member of the newly centralised Humanities IT team (Now CITS - Humanities).

My duties include:

  • Being the Faculty Software Registrar;
  • Windows Server Administration;
  • Novell administration with an emphasis on the management of accounts and permissions;
  • Microsoft Outlook client support; and
  • General IT troubleshooting duties.
