David Whish-Wilson is a writer and a lecturer in Creative Writing, most recently at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji. He is currently Area Co-ordinator of Creative Writing in the School of Media, Culture & Creative Arts at Curtin University, and a lecturer in the Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies program at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies. He has a BA in Philosophy and English & Comparative Literature from Murdoch University (VC’s Award for Academic Excellence), an MA in English (Creative Writing) from the University of Western Australia, and a PhD in English & Comparative Literature (Creative Writing) from Murdoch University.
David has published short stories in Australia (anthologised in Pascoe Publishing’s Best Fifty Stories Collection) and had a longer piece short-listed for the Vogel/Australian Literary Award. He has received ARTSWA, Australia Council and Film Victoria grants, and had his first literary fiction novel ‘The Summons’ published in 2006 (Vintage - Random House). He has been interviewed by Radio Australia, Radio New Zealand, Radio Bula Fiji, Fiji 1 Television, and has published articles in The Griffith Review and for the popular media in Fiji. David has performed his work at writer’s festivals in Australia and Fiji, at conferences, reading nights and at SLAM poetry events.
Over a twelve year period David has tutored, lectured and coordinated courses in Creative Writing, Literature and Communications in the West Australian prison system (Casuarina and Canning Vale Prisons), at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies, Curtin University, at the School of Communications & Cultural Studies, Curtin University, and in the School of Language, Arts & Media at the University of the South Pacific. David's next novel, 'Line of Sight', will be published by Penguin Australia in 2010.
