Julienne van Loon holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Queensland, a Masters of Arts (Hons) and a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Hons) from the University of Wollongong. Her first novel, Road Story (Sydney: Allen & Unwin 2005) won The Australian/Vogel Award (2004) and was short-listed for the First Book category of the Commonwealth Literature Prize 2006 (SE Asia & Pacific Region) & the WA Premier’s Book Awards (Fiction) 2005.

Julienne has taught creative writing at several Australian universities, including the University of Western Sydney, Griffith University and the University of Queensland. She joined the staff at Curtin in 1997 and is currently is the Managing Editor of the online journal Sitelines (sitelines.curtin.edu.au).
