"My approach to teaching of Architecture and Interior Architecture is a product of a long-term, slow-burning inspiration in which the acquisition of knowledge and skills are only a portion of my mode of teaching"
Khoa has over 10 years of teaching, academia and professional practice experience combined. He has been recognised for his passionate, creative and energising approaches to teaching & learning and architectural design work which has earned him numerous teaching awards and design accolades.
Khoa's professional practice experience includes residential and commercial design projects in Perth, Western Australia. He has also consulted on a number of residential and commercial projects in Malaysia and Vietnam, and is currently working on developing a stronger network-forum of SE Asian Designers: professionals, academics and students to generate a greater collegial assemblage of knowledge.
Teaching programmes and studios that Khoa has been involved with designing and developing are orientated to emphasise the process more than the final product. He sees architectural education as a development of professional character and attitude, where students are positioned by the teachings of architecture and are architects in the making.
It is obvious that the architectural profession has become more reliant on technology. All too often, we find our students of architecture losing reason and logic whilst opting for the visual impact of complex graphics. Khoa feels that the best technical tool he can provide a student is the ability to reason and address problems and effectively communicate the solution on a multitude of levels.
The acquisition of knowledge is only a portion in his mode of teaching. He believes teaching and learning is a collaborative exercise, involving much more than the transference of knowledge. It is an opportunity to facilitate an environment that fosters creativity, the engagement of critical thinking and to strive for innovation.
