Lucy has been with the Centre for Human Rights Education since 2003. Her background is originally in social work. While she worked in the addictions field for some years, most of her practice experience has been with asylum seekers and refugees where she worked as a community development worker as well as individual casework and advocacy.
Lucy was a founding member of CASE for Refugees, a community legal centre for refugees on temporary visas, and she has been involved with several campaigns and initiatives advocating for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia.
Lucy’s main areas of research interest are in community based approaches to understanding human rights, community activism as a mean of bringing about change, the protection of dissenting voices in times fear, and developing a grass roots ‘culture of rights’.
