Moira Doropoulos completed a Bachelor of Arts (Art) in 1988, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Visual Arts in 1990, both from the School of Art, Curtin University of Technology. In 2003 Moira attained a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching from Curtin.
Since 1993 Moira has been a staff member within the School of Art in various capacities including: studio based Art Technician, Associate Lecturer in the Fibre/ Textiles studio and 1st year Photography. In her current position Moira works full time as Associate Lecturer in the Art OUA studies department. Her role as an educator has also included Lecturing in Textiles units at TAFE and as a workshop Tutor in a number of venues throughout Western Australia.
In her own creative practice Moira’s work explores history, genealogy, tradition, ritual and identity. While strongly based in Textile traditions, Moira works across media incorporating cloth, paper, steel, photography and installation. Processes such as shibori resist, indigo dye and cyanotype are carefully selected and used for their metaphoric qualities and ritual application. The physical layering of processes and materials are employed to echo the layering of time and the rituals of life.
