Nonja Peters was awarded a Curtin Fellowship in 2005. Earlier, in 2002 as founding Director of Curtin's Migration, Ethnicity, Refugees and Citizenship Research Unit (MERC) she undertook research, books, documentaries, exhibitions, conferences and consultancies that address human rights, refugees, democracy, racism and border tension issues.
Since 2005 her research focus has been the preservation of Dutch Australians' cultural heritage. She is curator of travelling and permanent exhibitions on migration at the Fremantle History Museum and Northam Visitor Centre.
Currently she is:
1) editing a book on the WA Dutch;
2) a publication on ex POW child evacuees from the Netherlands East Indies rehabilitated at Fairbridge Village Inc 1945/6;
3) and rewriting her PhD on immigrant entrepreneurs.
