Associate Professor Steve Mickler has been Head of the School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts since July 2008. Prior to this, he was Head of the Department of Media and Information from July 2005 to June 2008. He is a member of the Faculty of Humanities Management Board and University Academic Board. He joined the academic staff at Curtin University in 1998, lecturing in communication studies and journalism, following a Research Fellowship with the Centre for Research in Culture and Communication at Murdoch University. From July to October 2009 he was a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Research on Work and Society at York University in Toronto, and in 2003 was a Visiting Fellow at Green College, University of British Columbia, Vancouver.

Research Interests

Political communication, journalism ethics, public opinion formation, political populism, talkback radio, media and political representation of Indigenous people, comparative Australian-Canadian media discourse analysis.
