Toni currently lectures on postgraduate and undergraduate courses in applied linguistics, TESOL and literacy with the School of Education and offshore providers. She is also responsible for the writing, trialling and coordinating of the Curtin University Test of English, a test used by the university as an indicator of overseas students' English language proficiency.
Toni has worked in the United Kingdom, Egypt and The Sultanate of Oman as an English language teacher and is employed as a consultant by NEAS, a national accreditation board for language teaching centres for overseas students. For the last twenty years or so she has been a course tutor and moderator for the Cambridge English Language Teaching to Adults qualification; a pre service teacher education course set up by the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate and offered world wide by different providers. She is currently co-editor of the international ACTA journal TESOL in Context.
Research Interests
Teaching and learning styles, critical pedagogy, classroom research, language acquisition, cross cultural pragmatics, approaches to learning
Research Projects
Currently completing a PHD which investigates the teaching and learning encounters of Asian postgraduate students and their lecturers in Western Australia and Vietnam.
Ongoing tracer studies for students who enter Curtin University via the Curtin University Test of English.
