English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Who studies EAP?
Students studying EAP develop their English language and academic study skills. Many wish to study English at a higher level to meet entry requirements Curtin College or prepare for University courses. EAP also prepares students to begin the English Language Bridging Program (ELB), which upon completion provides direct entry to Curtin University.
What will I be learning in EAP?
The EAP programs provide exam preparation skills, note taking skills and presentation skills, to prepare students for tertiary study and the English Language Bridging (ELB) program. Students will be offered a choice of either IELTS or CUTE preparation.
In our EAP courses students will also learn from regular guest speakers, and have more time with their teacher in our weekly small group tutorial classes. Students will also learn more about Australia with the new addition of Australian lifestyle, culture and history content integrated into our courses.
Levels
EAP is offered at levels 1 to 4, depending on the your English level. Students with a lower English level may need to study General English before beginning EAP.

- To prepare students for entry to tertiary education in Australia
- To prepare students for English Language Bridging (ELB), Curtin College or other pathway programs/language tests
- To enhance academic English language skills, study skills and learning strategies
- To build the English skills and confidence of students at a higher level
- To acquaint students with broader issues of Australian and world culture and society
