Who studies General English?
The General Englishcourse develops your confidence in using English when living, studying or working in an English-speaking environment. You should choose this course if you would like the enjoyment and stimulation of improving your English in a modern university environment.
The courses is taught on the main university campus, where you will be able to benefit from our state-of-the-art facilities, including modern libraries, and computer centres, as well as the service of our international-student advisers who will provide comprehensive support during your time in Perth.
What will I be learning in General English?
The course includes:
- development of language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
- development of language (grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation)
- social and idiomatic Australian English expressions to use in conversation
- Australian Life and culture
- small group tutorials
Our Teachers
Curtin English Language teachers are dedicated to improving your language skills so you can study or work with confidence in English. The courses are designed by experienced teachers who are experts in English language teaching.
We are accredited by NEAS for the teaching of English as a foreign language.
Class hours
Teaching is intensive with 20 class hours a week. You will be taught in small groups with a maximum of 18 students in each class.
Class levels
General English is offered at a variety of levels to meet the needs of different students; from beginner to advanced. On orientation day, students sit a placement test to decide which level is best suited to them, and will be placed in a class accordingly.
Students usually complete 10 weeks before moving to the next level.
