Third Year Student
Bachelor of Education (Primary)

Curtin was recommended to me by a close friend who was already studying Primary Education here and really liked the course. I spoke to other friends about alternative universities and Curtin seemed to be the best, so I enrolled here and am so glad I did!

The Curtin primary education course is fantastic. The units are interesting and really relevant; lots of my assignments have provided me with an opportunity to develop resources for my future teaching career, or to experience aspects of teaching in a real classroom. The staff are friendly and supportive, and always available to answer questions and help out. I really like the diverse range of people at Curtin too; there are people from all walks of life here and I learn so much from the experiences of others.

Since I enrolled at Curtin, I have been involved in many opportunities related to my course. From the very beginning of my teaching degree, I have volunteered one day of each week at a primary school close to my home. I usually spend one semester with a teacher in a particular class, and participate in all the classroom activities.

While I am only halfway through my teaching degree at Curtin, it has already been a valuable journey of personal and professional growth, in which I have developed many of the skills and understandings necessary to become an effective teacher. The practicum experiences are excellent; teaching is not a profession that can be exclusively learned in theory, and Curtin's practicum programme gives pre-service teachers an opportunity to practise their skills and apply what they have learned in an authentic context, under the guidance of an experienced mentor teacher.

The staff at Curtin have really made a difference to my time here so far. Each staff member brings their own on-the-job experiences, and their willingness to share these is invaluable for pre-service teachers like myself who have limited experience of the practicalities of teaching. Another fantastic thing about the staff at Curtin is that they are approachable and available to answer any questions you might have, and almost certain to provide helpful advice and support for you. Many members of the Curtin teaching staff have had a positive impact on my experience so far, and I am very grateful to them for the knowledge and skills they have taught me and the support and encouragement they have provided. However, the administrative staff at Curtin are just as helpful and supportive, always willing to answer course-related queries and assist where needed.

I would definitely recommend the Bachelor of Education (Primary Education)degree at Curtin to anyone considering teaching as their future career. The quality of teaching, the campus facilities, the support services, and the opportunities available are all fantastic, and the degree is continually evolving and being improved due to the caring, reflective nature of the School of Education staff. I hope to see you at Curtin!
