Student Profile
I chose Curtin University because I felt that its Early Childhood course was well respected and therefore it was worth travelling to.
I feel as though my course offered me the theory I needed to become a highly effective teacher whilst still allowing me opportunities for professional practice in classroom contexts. The course encouraged me to develop my own personal philosophy of teaching as well as exposing me to a range of different ideas.
The highlight of my degree was my third year practicum placement where I had the opportunity to work in a Language Development Centre. This was a context I had not yet experienced to this point and I now feel as though it is the area that I would particularly enjoy working in.
I think my degree will greatly assist me in my career path. Out in schools I have heard how highly regarded Curtin graduates are and I feel as though they have made me the best graduate teacher I could be.
The staff at Curtin have been incredibly supportive. They have been approachable and I truly feel as though they wanted me to succeed and did everything they could to ensure that I did.
My advice for others considering this degree? Jump at any opportunity for practical experiences along the way and take the time to build repour with your lecturers, they have enormous depths of knowledge and experience and are ready to share.
I feel as though the last four years of hard work (and fun) have prepared me for the real world of teaching, I can’t wait to get out there and give young children the best start to their schooling lives possible.
