Bachelor of Education (Primary Education)

I initially chose Curtin because I felt they had the best Media/Journalism degree being offered in WA (and it was also close to home and my high school friends!). However, my career views changed after my first year at Curtin and I decided teaching was the way to go for me. Curtin made the transition from one degree to another very easy and I even had the opportunity to personally speak with the Primary Education course coordinator at that time about my transition. But I have since found out that doing an Education degree at Curtin has proven the best decision I’ve made throughout my university life. They have the best tutors and lecturers and a great support system between staff and students.

My time at Curtin will definitely be one of the most memorable experiences of my life. With the help of the new friends I have made and some of the excellent staff in the Education faculty, it has helped me become the person and teacher I am today.

The highlight of my degree WILL be the opportunity to travel to Saskatchewan, Canada to complete my final prac for 10 weeks! Otherwise, I would have to say the highlight of my degree so far was my very first prac out at a school in Gosnells – it really showed me how rewarding being a primary school teacher can be.

The staff at Curtin are wonderful! Awesome! Lovely! Great! No, really! All the tutors and lecturers I have interacted with have always been helpful in some way and taught me something valuable. The teaching staffs at the Education faculty impart more than just academic knowledge; they instil a sense of positive human values that we as student-teachers can also eventually share with our future students.

If you love children and want to be a positive part of shaping their lives, I would definitely recommend doing this degree. Why would I recommend others do the degree at Curtin? They will be able to learn from some of the best teachers, who can share with students their personal experiences. There is also a great support system amongst the peers within the Education faculty and everyone is always willing to help!
