Architect – Tim Flynn Architects, London, UK
Bachelor of Architecture

I chose Curtin because it seemed to offer a better grounding in the technical skills that I thought would be needed as an architect. Despite an avid interest in the theoretical side of architecture I did not want to finish university without a solid foundation from which to build my career.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Curtin, albeit a particularly hard course at times. After 3 years I decided to take a further 3 years break before continuing. This time allowed me to work in the architectural field, travel and develop my ideas. Upon returning I really appreciated the academic environment and utilised the universities facilities a lot more than in previous years.

My thesis year was by far the most enjoyable, challenging and intense time at Curtin made bearable only by my very understanding and supportive thesis tutor.

Most of what you learn as an architect is learnt on the job but I have no doubt that my time at Curtin set me on the right path in terms of ideas, realities and knowledge.

I am currently practising as a Part II Architect in London for Tim Flynn Architects. I am currently involved in substantial high end residential projects in Russia, Spain and London including a 3000m2 single residence in Moscow. My most recent appointment is as supervising architect on a 1200m2 apartment building in Mayfair, London. I am also currently studying for my Part III (Registration).

I worked for one and a half years with a company called Collett-Zarzycki of whom Tim Flynn was a director. I worked with Tim extensively and successfully over that period. Subsequently we formed a good working relationship. Tim was no longer able to service his projects and clients effectively within the existing practice, therefore decided to set up his own practice based in Mayfair. He approached me and asked if I would help with the establishment of the practice with a view to taking on a senior role within the company.

I would recommend the degree to others. The current senior staff are exceptional and are no doubt shaping the course for the future.
