Bachelor of Education (Honours Primary Education Stream)
I have always wanted to be a primary school teacher and Curtin seemed the right choice of University for me. I attended Curtin Open Day back in 2006 and the staff were all very friendly and willing to answer any questions. The course seemed to be exactly what I was after; theory which could then be applied in practice. I also went for a tour and the campus seemed like its only little community; soon as I stepped out of the car it felt like I was in my own little world of intelligence and learning.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Curtin. The ambiance, staff, class mates and very flexible timetable all made my uni experience the best that it could be! I was able to have a balanced life style between study, part-time work and social/recreational outings, which made these past three and a half years a lot of fun. I’m even considering coming back to do Post-Graduate work!
I think that the highlight of my degree was actually doing the assignments! I know that sounds silly, but the assignments along with attendance in the tutorials has prepared me to be the best teacher that I can be. All of the core units and the electives I completed covered everything that I need to know to become a primary school teacher. In addition, I highly enjoyed completing my research project for Honours, which I am currently writing. It is providing me with an insight into a specific topic of my choice which I am interested and is allowing me to further my studies in education.
The staff at Curtin are very knowledgeable and were happy to help me out whenever I needed it. They were approachable and easy to get along with. I believe that the staff developed a good rapport with their students, which made learning about how to be a teacher fun!
I haven’t graduated yet as I still have my final two month practicum to complete and my thesis to write. But as soon as I’m done I plan to find a teaching job or continue my studies with postgrad at Curtin.
Yes, I would definitely recommend the degree to others. The course has prepared me for my final practicum and encouraged me to develop my skills in all areas of teaching throughout the years. I now feel well prepared to begin my practicum in one week and look forward to teaching and having my own classroom in the near future.
