Life in “the Jing”
"I have been living in 'the Jing' – (Beijing as known by the resident laowai) for about 1.5 years now, working as a strategy consultant for a foreign telecommunications company. I was very fortunate to come across this opportunity and I’m not sure if I would be here now if it wasn’t for my time at Curtin. I completed my double degree in Marketing and Chinese in 2006 and haven’t looked back since. Learning Chinese at Curtin provided me with the basic tools not only to firmly ground myself in China, but also gave me a solid foundation to continually expand my language skills.
One thing I really liked about learning Chinese at Curtin was that the very practical language lessons were strongly interwoven with the cultural aspects of the course. Applying the concepts learnt at uni in everyday life and in my work has helped me get so much more out of the ‘China experience’ and life in general.
If you want to get out there and do something completely different, something which will take you on a life-long learning experience, then I would seriously recommend considering Chinese at Curtin."
