Bachelor of Arts (Art and Design Studies)

Originally I had wanted to go to UWA, but Curtin offered a better Art History degree. It has a good balance of traditional and contemporary art theory and practical work which drew me to this major.

Curtin's Art Department has a supportive community full of creative and open minded people willing to encourage me to reach my full potential.

So far, my degree has really provides me with a whole range of new and exciting artists to research further. It has also opened my eyes to various cultural and historical art practices. The history of the art is just as important as the art itself and that is really stressed in the lectures and tutorials - the importance of context. From this background knowledge, I am able to go further in my field and make connections with other Curtin Humanities units - such as Anthropology and Sociology.

Many of my lectures and tutors have opened my mind to the numerous possibilities that the arts offered. I have been inspired by their determination and drive to teach, normally going above and beyond my expectations, determined to help me if I experienced any problems.

Yes, I would recommend this degree to other but in saying that I do think you have to have an open mind and the drive to want to study and learn throughout your whole degree. Also I feel the most important thing is to embrace every situation whether it is socially or academically at uni allowing you to receive a more rounded education.
