Steve Power

Construction Services Manager - Western Power
Master of Science (Project Management)

I chose Curtin because:

  1. The structure of the masters programme.
  2. The knowledge, dedication and commitment of the lecturers.
  3. The learning environment.
  4. The reputation of Curtin and the MSc programme

From a career perspective, my Project Management masters has given my business greater credibility; it has also allowed me to apply many of the concepts and systems that I learned during my studies.

The Project Management masters provides underpinning theory for ‘real’ project management and opened up other options - maturity, Strategic Procurement. In addition it culminated previous qualifications by providing solid underpinning knowledge.

In my environment a Project Management master's degree is widely recognized and this perception is increasing.

I particularly enjoyed the interaction with other students through lectures and team based assignments. Several relationships established with fellow students and lecturers during my studies have continued.

I found undertaking a dissertation both challenging and rewarding and have been encouraged to look for further research opportunities in the course of my business.

I applaud my employer Western Power for having the foresight to encourage continuous learning and who have provided a wealth of practical experience on which much of my studies were based.

By applying project management systems to our business we have been able to continually produce tangible results.
