I chose to study at Curtin because I had heard good things about the design course at Curtin, and had seen some graduates enjoying a lot of success.
The course is fun and challenging and there are some great people involved in it. The day I found 10 bucks on the ground was probably the highlight. The graduate exhibition night was close, but I was driving that night so I couldn’t partake in as many of the ‘festivities’ as the others. Ok, it was probably still better than the 10 bucks.
Highlights were obtaining a ‘creative thinking scholarship’ with advertising company Rare in 2007; being awarded best campaign in the Creative Advertising course in 2008; being named Australian Student Photographer of the Year 2008.
Since graduating I have enjoyed freelancing in the fields of branding, graphic design, photography and film making. I achieved a 14th placing in the 2009 International Aperture awards, and won the Subiaco category of the 2009 Subiaco Photographic Awards.I am also lucky enough to be a successful DJ and have played support for some of my favourite artists including Canyons, Graz and Miami Horror.
Blair McLeish who heads the advertising department, is a super star. His lectures in second year were equally as inspiring as they were daunting. Paul Green-Armytage’s passion for creativity was also an inspiration for me. I never had the chance to be in Lee Ingram’s classes, but he is a legend. Props to Justin Randall. Most of the staff are excellent.
This degree is great for those who want all their creative powers to form like Voltron into one powerful, sleek, animal-robot-metal body.
