Bachelor of Arts, Design (Honours) – majoring in Creative Advertising

“I chose to study Creative Advertising Design at Curtin as the course was highly recommended from several family members that attended Curtin, and Curtin is the best university in WA for my area of study.

I think it is a fantastic course that teaches students about all areas of design and its importance in the world. It gives all students various skills necessary to work in the industry and all of the tutors and lecturers are fantastic at giving students one-on-one time to share ideas and get feedback.

Taking part in the end of year graduation exhibition was probably one of the main highlights. I felt that all my hard work over the three years paid off and I had a folio of work that I could show people in the industry.

Another major highlight for me, was winning the Movies by Burswood, Make Your Mark Advertising Competition for 2008-2009 print category. Without having done this course I would not have the skills or knowledge to be able to compete in such a large competition.

I think the degree is worth doing as it opens your mind to the different areas of design. Within the Creative Advertising major in particular you can learn so much about art direction, copywriting, marketing and even obtain skills as a graphic designer. Furthermore, by studying in this course it gave me the opportunity to take part in the Mentor program at Curtin University for two years, which meant I was able to share my experiences in the degree with first year students and guide them into the university process, which was very gratifying.”
