Paul Stone MSc (Project Management) MAIPM
Regional Project Manager (WA & SA)
AJ Lucas Operations Pty Ltd
The main reason I enrolled on the Masters of Project Management at Curtin University was because it offered an industry recognised qualification with the flexibility of study options. Shortly after starting the course I went overseas and was able to continue my studies using the fully online format which I found extremely convenient, especially being in a different time zone.
After completing the first year of the Masters program I was given an opportunity within my company to take on a Project Management role; this was as a direct result to undertaking the course at Curtin. I was able to apply the theory learnt during my studies to the working environment which enhanced the value of the course and gave me more confidence in the new role.
Specifically the topics of Project Management (PM641) and Risk Management (RM641) provided me with the knowledge that enabled me to be successful at work and ultimately led to another promotion just prior to completing the course and graduating with the MSc. In addition I found the management & leadership modules extremely interesting and useful, both for personal and professional development.
Overall the flexibility of the fully online mode of study was one of course’s greatest strengths. The lecturers and unit coordinators were always available to answer questions and provide feedback utilising the online system, and with recorded lectures and an excellent selection of unit materials I certainly did not feel that I missed out on the learning experience by being overseas.
Effective project management is fast becoming recognised as a vital component of successful organisations and employers are now realising the value that a course like Curtin’s Masters of Project Management can bring. I would have no hesitation in recommending the course to any prospective student no matter what industry they come from.
