Soelvi Finnoey
Interior Architecture
I chose Curtin because of it's reputation and the high quality of it's Interior Architecture degree. To be a graduate from Curtin means a lot to me, not only did I gain a lot of knowledge, but I gained irreplaceable practical experience which will enable me to find employment too. The best thing about the course is the strong emphasis it places on the process stage of creating something, really analysing and understanding why you do something, what it is the client wants, why you design the final product as it is.
Soelvi Finnoey Curtin Graduate Bachelor of Arts (Interior Architecture)
I learned many transferable skills and the course is very varied, so you come away with many different skills such as furniture design, an understanding of climate and light and its effect on design and an in-depth grounding in all areas of Interior Architecture.
The course is challenging and you learn so much. I also had a lot of support from my lecturers. This is something I will particularly miss when I leave Australia! Studying in Australia gave me the opportunity to gain a strong background in English and to understand and live in a different culture.
I couldn't believe it when I won the Domus scholarship! I took a summer course in Product Design in Milan last year and then I applied for the Domus Academy's Grand Prix Award in September. I had to send a portfolio of my work to Milan to be considered for the Scholarship. In the portfolio I put a lot of emphasis on the process of my work as well as the reasoning behind it. This explanation made it possible for other people to have a better understanding of the finished designs.
The completion of my Masters degree in Interactive Design in Milan will enable me to broaden my skills and knowledge and give me experience in other areas. I will have two degrees in two different areas which will hopefully give me an advantage and will complement my existing degree in Interior Architecture with the new area of Interactive Design. In the future I see myself as an Interior Architect who will enjoy my work and explore new, interesting and innovative areas.
