Advice to Authors

The editorial team will be conducting initial reviews of all works submitted for publication in Reflections. The works will be double blind refereed, and referees’ written comments will be sent out to respective authors. Refereed submissions should not exceed 8000 words. Other publications, such as book reviews, occasional papers and Letters to the Editor will also be considered for publication.

Contributions to Reflections

Manuscripts should conform to the Built Environment Research style instructions and submission requirements that are available form the website. Copies of submissions bearing the author’s name, title and full contact details should be sent electronically to the Editors. Books for review should be sent to the Editor’s mailing address.

Style Guidelines

Abstract
All articles should include an abstract of no more than 200 words.

Footnotes
Footnotes should be referred to in the body of the text by a superscript number. All footnotes should be numbered consecutively and placed at the end of the text.

Referencing
Books
Young C. 1999, Planning: Theory and Practice, Perth, Blackswan Publishers, p. 25 or pp. 24-27.
Short cite: Young, Planning: Theory and Practice, p. 25. The use of op. cit. and ibid. is to be avoided.
Where the note cites more than one source, both references must be cited in shorthand form.

Edited Books
Grant J. 2005, ‘Sustainability and Construction Industry in Western Australia’ in P. Stevens and J. O’Connor (eds.), Futures: Architectural Research and Design Practices in New Millennium, Perth, University of Western Australia Press, pp. 54-78.
Short cite: Grant, ‘Sustainability and Construction Industry in Western Australia’, p. 62.

Journals

Abbreviations
All abbreviations should have a full stop followed by a space, as in p. 225.

Quotation Marks
Direct quotes should be placed in “double parentheses” throughout. Authors should use ‘inverted commas’ for indirect quotation and emphasis.

Spelling
All spelling should be in accordance with The Oxford English Dictionary or Macquarie Dictionary.

Illustrations
Only black and white illustrations, fully referenced, can be included.

Form of Submission
All submissions should be electronic in Office Word format and have pages of the main paper numbered. The author should include title and abstract on the first page. Title and abstract, should also be included on a separate page together with author’s name and full contact details. The author’s name should not appear on the paper. When sending a paper, please include ‘Reflections: JOBER submission’ and your name under ‘subject’. Authors should also provide a word count, with and without footnotes.
