Important Information

Equal Opportunity

The School of Art is committed to the principles of equal opportunity (under the Equal Opportunity Legislation) and endeavours to promote an educational and work environment free from discrimination and harassment on the grounds of:

Definitions of discrimination

DIRECT

Less favourable treatment than another person, in the same or similar circumstances, on any of the grounds listed above, in any of the areas covered by the legislation.

INDIRECT

An unreasonable rule or a practice which on the face of it appears neutral, but with which a high proportion of persons of a particular race, sex or other group covered by the legislation could not comply.

Ms Pam Gaunt is the School of Art's representative on the Divisional EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) committee and can offer students' advise on various procedures for discrimination and harassment complaints. There are also EEO posters and brochures on grievance procedures posted on studio/workshop notice boards throughout the School. This information is also available through the Student Guild, Counselling Services, the Universities EEO office, and the Manager, Academic Policy and Communications and is included in The Student Charter.

If you are uncertain about whether you have been discriminated against it is important to discuss the issue with an appropriate person.

Annual survey

The School of Art endeavors to elicit student feedback regarding discrimination and harassment within the School in the form of an annual student and staff questionnaire. The information gathered from this survey is confidential and the School takes seriously any complaints made with regard to harassment and/or discrimination.
