Description of the Project
The Project will investigate teacher and student perceptions of how Western Australian rural and remote secondary school learning environments affect student engagement and decisions to complete schooling. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods will be applied over four years. Teachers and students will be interviewed to elicit rich in-depth data and large samples of teachers and students will be surveyed to produce data generalisable to the population. A longitudinal multiple-case study and teacher action research will provide detailed insights into the influences of school and classroom factors on the development of student dispositions towards continued participation in schooling.
