Communication and Cultural Studies has been a leader and innovator in literary, media, performance and cultural studies for more than 25 years.

It has pioneered courses in Australian Studies and was one of the first tertiary institutions to offer Journalism and Creative Writing as major streams. The program specialises in giving students the opportunity to combine theoretical studies with practical applications.

The Tim Winton Lecture Theatre was officially opened by the award-winning author and Curtin graduate. It is located on Curtin's Bentley Campus across from the Elizabeth Jolley Lecture Theatre.
