The Prize ran for many years as a poetry prize. In 2004 it was converted to an annual $1200 bursary. The award is supported by the family of the late Bobbie Cullen, a former Curtin creative writing student.

Previous winners of Bobbie Cullen Award include:

2006 Lynn Gumb, Doctor of Creative Arts candidate
2005 Maureen Gibbons, Master of Creative Arts candidate
2004 Bron Bateman, Doctor of Philosophy candidate
