Students are in charge of all aspects of researching, writing, editing, photographing, laying out, and preparing for print an A3 size newspaper, with the assistance of highly-experienced lecturers and tutors.
What’s more, students have the chance to have their work seen by media outlets and editors, and many have been offered placements and internships via The Western Independent.
The Western Independent newspaper is produced twice a semester by Curtin’s Journalism students and is widely circulated throughout the Perth community. Distributed to major WA media outlets, as well as busy high streets in busy retail districts like Mount Lawley, Fremantle and Subiaco, the professionally-printed paper gives students an opportunity to be published and recognised even before they have graduated.
It gives students the opportunity to experience all aspects of newspaper publishing in a real setting.
