When first starting my Bachelor of Social Science I was instantly drawn to International Relations as it appealed to my interests in humanity and the ‘bigger picture’ of the world. The teaching staff offer a wide variety of knowledge in different aspects of International Relations and specialise in different global areas. I was able to take units on political theory; current and future security challenges for Australia and the world; and region-specific learning about the political situations in Japan, China, Indonesia, India, the Middle East and other critically important nations in the current world power structure.
Studying at Curtin encouraged me to explore the different paths that International Relations can take you on which include Intelligence Analysis, Defence Studies, Government Policy and International Infrastructure Development. The opportunity for self-directed study in the final semester allowed me to focus on my personal interest in International Children’s Rights which since graduating has led me to gain employment with the Department for Child Protection working on an IT project to replace the systems that are used for client case management throughout the state.
I can highly recommend International Relations as both a rewarding and interesting choice of study at Curtin.
