As a Curtin Journalism student, you will have the opportunity to produce content for both student-run publications; the InkWire website and the Western Independent newspaper. Using these two platforms, you can practice what you’ve been studying to produce news stories, feature articles and photographs. This unique opportunity will help you graduate with a substantial portfolio of published print or broadcast work, allowing you to kick-start your career.
InkWire, publishes the multimedia work of Online Reporting, Photojournalism and Feature Writing students, breaking stories from News Writing and Reporting students, audio from Radio News students and video packages from Advanced Broadcast and Television News students. The website also showcases journalistic stories emanating from an Aboriginal Community Engagement project founded by an interdisciplinary team of staff from Curtin University’s Faculty of Humanities. The Western Independent
Two issues of of the Western Independent newspaper are published each semester. Students enrolled in Print Production take on leadership and sub-editing roles at the newspaper, while those enrolled in News Writing and Reporting, Feature Writing and Photojournalism provide the articles and pictures.
